Acacia Animal Health Center was about to open its new state-of-the-art, 12,800 square feet facility on a prime site of 83,000 square feet,
but as of two weeks before opening day the facility lacked collateral press material. In a short time frame, Tom developed a press kit including a
feature article on the new facility as well as separate one-page fact sheets and biographical sketches, and a brief project history.
Tom then contacted the media, both print and electronic, inviting them to a press tour during the center’s first week of operation.
Results:
Feature coverage in San Diego Union Tribune, North County Times, Today’s Local News, the city’s Economic Development Division

Keeping Drunk Drivers Off The Road
NK Towing Observes Fifth Anniversary
Of Its "Five City Tipsy Tow" Program
Escondido-based NK Towing & Road Service observes its fifth anniversary this year (July 4th) of its "Five City Tipsy Tow" program.
Here's how it works: A person drinking alone at a local bar comes to realize that he or she has had one too many drinks. He or she
has no designated driver. Local bartenders in the five designated cities: Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, and Camp Pendleton,
have NK Towing's business cards. Within minutes of putting through the call, an NK Tow truck arrives to take the person home--with his
or her vehicle in tow. No charge. At an average of two to three calls per week, this community service program has represented a
contribution of approximately $60,000 over the five years in which the programs has been in effect.
The Auto Club of Southern California has such a program; however, it is in effect only on certain times of the year, such as 4th of July
and New Year's Eve. NK Towing's program is 365 days a year. As NK Towing founder and president Amir Iravani says, "Triple A created the
program; we just expanded it."
"The end result makes the roads more safe for everybody," says NK Towing's Amir Iravani. "We provide free towing and transportation services
for those in the community who make the conscious choice not to drive after they have had too much too drink." He cites drunk driving as
statistically among the top-rated causes of accidents and fatalities and says "This is our way to give back to our community and to get
these individuals and their vehicles home safely when these situations arise."
In his experience, "Most intoxicated people just want to go home. Once in a while occasion, we get someone who asks to be taken to the next bar,
but that's rare. We take that person-and his car--home."
"But it is all about safety," he says. Towing the driver's car to their home keeps the car safe as well and out of danger of being vandalized-or
ticketed and towed.
Amir is the father of two teen-age daughters, pre-teens when he started the year-round program, but now occasionally out and about on evenings.
